REALITY CHECK: McGuinty Liberals Want Banks to Get a Break, Not Working Ontarians
TORONTO, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2007) - In response to Howard Hampton and the NDP's plan to give a $450 Health Tax rebate for working families, McGuinty Health Minister George Smitherman today said that he would rather see profitable banks and insurance companies get a break than hardworking Ontario families.
The Double-Talk: Smitherman claimed that the NDP's Fair Tax Plan was "reckless" and would deprive the health system of resources.
The Fact: He's wrong. The NDP Fair Tax Plan couples elimination of the McGuinty Health Tax with a minor increase for profitable banks and insurance companies. Under the Fair Tax Plan, the health system will see $350 million more than it would under the McGuinty Liberals four years from now.
Smitherman's performance today is another example of the McGuinty Liberal double-talk that has let working families down.
