By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, Sept 12: Indian police on Wednesday claimed to foil a suicide attack by Pakistan based militant group, Lashkar-e-Toiba by arresting three over ground workers of the group and recovering some arms and ammunition from their possession.
A police officer told News Blaze that police prevented a suicide attack by timely arresting three Lashker-e-Toiba OGWs in Karan Nagar area in the summer capital of Srinagar. The trio, according to the police officer, were planning a suicide attack in the city.
He identified the arrested OGWs as Mohammad Maqbool Mir alias Shaheen son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Mir of Bandipora, Ishfaq Ahmad Fazili alias Khand Peer son of Mohammad Tariq Fazili of Bandipora and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Rather alias Billa son of Ghulam Rasool of Bemina, Srinagar.
The police officer claimed that one AK rifle, six AK magazines, seven Chinese hand grenades and 200 rounds of AK ammunition was recovered from their possession. "The trio was working for Lashkar militant outfit for quiet some time but could not be apprehended so far and had transported weapons from North Kashmir to Srinagar in a Tata Sumo vehicle", he said.
He claimed that the plan for the attack was that after the receipt of the weapons, some militants had to be transported from North Kashmir to Srinagar to carry out the suicide attack in the city. "For this purpose Ishtiaq alias Billa a resident of Bemina, had hired a room in Karan Nagar to keep the weapons and militants. All of the arrested OGWs were in constant touch with Lashkar top Commander Abu Wafa alias Musa in North and Salahuddin alias Haider Karar in Pakistan", he claimed.
The police officer said that by foiling the suicide attack, they have saved several precious lives.
