Night Watch: NABLUS - Parallel to the fighting in and around the Gaza Strip there is nightly action in the West Bank as Israel conducts raids in several of the cities to prevent Tehran from enabling Hamas, Jihad Islami and other militant groups from having a secure base to operate as Hamas and extremists have in Gaza. Debka reports that last night, instead of just a raid, Israel conducted a large-scale sweep into several cities to arrest-kill Islamic militants. Other than Nablus, the sweep was conducted in the cities of: Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Ramallah and Jenin. Israel has received no assistance in any of it operations in the West Bank from Mahmoud Abbas and his Palestinian Authority even though he made an empty public pledge to do so which I doubt Jerusalem took seriously. His Fatah-al Aqsa Brigades are suspected of cooperating with Hamas, Jihad Islami and other extreme groups behind the scenes. [DEBKA]
