Women's Boxing: May the Best Woman Win!
By Jill Diamond
Carina Moreno and Jill Emery were Team mates for three years at the USA Amateur Competitions. Jill Emery was the oldest on the team. Carina Moreno was the youngest. Both became top amateur champions. Unlike many boxers who turn pro, they've both retained the same coaches, Rick Noble coaches and manages Carina and Mike Kozlowski coaches Jill. It seems to be a successful formula for all. Carina is the WBC Strawweight World Champion and Jill is fighting for the NABF Super Light and WBC Mandatory position against Terri Blair.
Thanks to Christian Printup and the Tachi Palace in Lemoore, California, these two women meet again. This time they're two of the three featured women's titles fights on the same card.
The third event is a blood match between Jessica Rakoczy and Ann Marie Saccurato. Ann Marie gave up her interim Lightweight world title to fight Holly Holm as a Welter. Jessica picked it up. Now they fight it out on September 27th.
These women are in an elite group of women boxers who have the whole package; talents, looks and good coaching. One hope they represent the future of women's boxing in this country. I'd like to believe it's so.
The matchup takes place at Tachi Palace, Lemoore, California on 27th September 2007.
