New Rugged Military-Grade Data Security Device From CRU-DataPort

Space Saving Removable Hard Drive Designed to Take Abuse

CRU-DataPort, a global leader in data security and data mobility products, today announced the new Data Express DE275, an improved version of the popular StorCase Data Express DE75, a low-profile removable hard drive enclosure used to hot-swap hard drives mounted in workstations and servers deployed worldwide by government, military, commercial and industrial customers.

"Portable, rugged and reliable data storage solutions are necessary to enable information sharing among government agencies and our allies," said Jon Johnson, executive director of marketing for CRU-DataPort. "Fast and secure access to increasing amounts of data can be critical to a mission's success." DataPort removable drive enclosures have been used by most government agencies to make hard drives removable and keep data secure since 1986.

The original DE75 is a steel-constructed hard drive carrier and receiving frame for internally mounting a low-profile (up to 1" high), 3.5" hard drive into any standard or undersized half-height, 5.25" peripheral bay. The new and improved DE275 features design improvements suited for high shock and vibration environments, including dual lock-down thumbscrews to help stabilize and secure the removable drive carrier. Ideal applications include aerial surveillance, seaborne systems, automotive-mounted systems and uses requiring immediate data mobility.

Initially constructed of aluminum to provide the lightweight performance necessary for airborne systems, a sheet metal version of the DE275 will also be made available for customers whose applications are less weight sensitive. The DE275 is RoHS compliant and is available in both Serial ATA (SATA) and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) interfaces for high-speed 3Gb/s I/O performance.

The DE275's low profile design minimizes the space required for installation, allowing it to make hard drives hot swappable (removable without powering the system down) in areas where space is constrained; useful in multiple drive configurations. Rugged construction helps protect the drive from physical damage during use and when removed. Other applications include data backup, RAID for performance or redundancy and JBOD.
