Coast Guard Deploys for Ohio Flood Response

U.S. Coast Guard units from throughout the Great Lakes region are deployed to provide assistance to the state of Ohio with search-and-rescue and assistance for flood victims in the impacted areas.

Coast Guard operations began yesterday in Findlay, Ohio, where Coast Guard units assisted more than a dozen people.

The Coast Guard is responding with two Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DART), two 20-foot, flat-bottom fan boats, and helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Detroit. In total, more than 50 Coast Guard members are responding.

"The Coast Guard is working with state and federal partners to assist the communities affected by the floods," said Capt. Patrick Brennan, commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector Detroit, who is overseeing the on-scene response. "We are helping with evacuations and standing by to assist with any other needs the communities may have."

A Coast Guard Strike Team is en route to assist the Environmental Protection Agency with pollution response in Findlay and Ottawa, Ohio.
