Five Back-to-School, Quick-Fix Appliance Tips From RepairClinic.com

Summer may still be in full swing, but many moms
and dads are preparing for the back-to-school rush with lists of things to
do: pick up school supplies, buy a new pair of shoes, plan the first week's
lunches, and so on. With the kids soon away for much of the day,
RepairClinic.com®, the online source for home appliance parts and
repair advice, has put together five quick and easy maintenance tips to get
those kitchen appliances back in shape after the beating they've taken this
summer.
"Each of these five easy appliance maintenance jobs takes less than six
minutes to complete, can be tackled by anyone, and prolongs the life and
efficiency of these expensive appliances," says Chris Hall, president of
RepairClinic.com. "Many of our customers have surprised themselves by
fixing an appliance themselves -- and saving hundreds of dollars."
-- Clean or replace the drip bowls underneath the electric coil burners
on your stove. Dirty drip bowls reduce the heating efficiency of the
burners and make the stove look old and tired. Safety tip: Never cover them
with foil -- this can cause an electrical short-circuit.
-- Check your oven door to be sure it's closing tightly. This will
improve the efficiency and temperature accuracy of the oven. If it doesn't
close properly, you should inspect the door gasket, hinges or door springs.
These oven parts can be replaced by most do-it-yourselfers.
-- Clean or replace the filters in your range vent hood or underneath
your over-the-range microwave oven. If the filter is too dirty to clean or
is worn out, replace it with a new one from RepairClinic.com. Charcoal air
filters cannot be cleaned so you should replace them every year.
-- Check your dishwasher's dish rack and inspect the dish rack tines for
rusting. Rust particles can ruin the pump and seals, causing a hidden leak
or pump failure. An inexpensive tine repair kit can save you the cost of a
new dish rack. The kits come in various colors to match your rack. If the
dish rack is beyond salvation, a replacement can be found at
RepairClinic.com, along with dish rack wheel replacements.
-- Clean or replace the air filter in your portable air conditioner to
maximize its efficiency, and don't forget to give the evaporator and
condenser coils an annual cleaning before you store it for the winter.
