Two Tourists Killed as Glacier Slides in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 3: Two tourists died and seven others were rescued by police, after a glacier in the Sonamarg health resort broke and slid down today.
Police said that five tourists were taking pictures from a glacier in the health resort Sonamarg this afternoon, when the glacier broke down. The glacier slid and all the tourists were trapped in the glacier.
Immediately after hearing about the incident, a rescue operation was launched by police to rescue the trapped tourists. They managed to rescue seven tourists, but could not save two others. The dead tourists were identified as Himesh Arora son of Ashok Arora of Jammu and Tarun Kapoor, son of Narinder Kapoor of Jammu.
Three among the rescued tourists were identified as Nitish Goel son of Gauri Shanker of A/G 119 Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, Nawal Kishore, son of Nitish Kumar Gupta of A/G 402 Shalimar Bagh and Neha Sarin wife of Rahul Sarin of Goni Khan, Srinagar.
The rescue operation is still going on.
A top police officer, who was supervising the rescue operation told this correspondent the rescue operation is continuing as police investigate to determine if there are more bodies or survivors, trapped in the glacier.
