Auto Club: Gas Prices Head Down Again
After two weeks of hovering at about the
same levels, gas prices began heading down again last week by half a penny
a day or more in most local areas, according to the Automobile Club of
Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long
Beach area is $3.071, which is 3.9 cents cheaper than last week, nine cents
below last month, and twenty cents under last year. In San Diego, the price
is $3.087, which is 4.1 cents below last week's price, 5.5 cents under last
month, and 22 cents cheaper than last year. On the Central Coast, the
average price is $3.302, down 2.9 cents from last week, 10.5 cents under
last month, and eleven cents below last year. In the Inland Empire, the
average price is $3.048, 4.1 cents below last week, eight cents under last
month, and 24 cents cheaper than last year.
"We are seeing many more Southland gas stations this week with prices below
$3 a gallon," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "And Californians
who are used to paying less for gas at out-of-state vacation destinations
will probably be surprised to see very similar or even higher prices in
other areas. Most states have average gas prices within 10 cents of $3 a
gallon."
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01
a.m., July 27:
