Canada's New Government Helps People in British Columbia Find Jobs


ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA - (CCNMatthews - July 24, 2007) - Ed Fast, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced more than $1.2 million in funding for a three-year initiative with the Mennonite Central Committee British Columbia's Compass Project, which will help a minimum of 1,152 unemployed individuals in the Abbotsford and Mission area to prepare for, obtain and maintain employment.

"Canada's New Government is proud to support community organizations that help unemployed individuals find work," said Mr. Fast. "Not only will this project help more than 1,150 adults and young people in the Abbotsford area who require employment and career assistance, but it will also benefit local employers and the local economy."

Mennonite Central Committee British Columbia will deliver employment resources and counselling services so that people around Abbotsford and Mission can more fully participate in the labour market. The Mennonite Central Committee British Columbia office, located at 33255 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford, will provide flexible career decision-making programs designed to address the specific needs and circumstances of individuals and enable them to participate fully in the workforce. This project is one of many services funded through Service Canada to help people find jobs.
