Cartoonist Supports Sufferers of Life Threatening Disease

The National Marfan Foundation is an organization that helps those with the genetic syndrome known as Marfan syndrome through treatment, and support. In the Marfan syndrome, the connective tissue is defective and does not act as it should. Because connective tissue is found throughout the body Marfan syndrome can affect many body systems, including the skeleton, eyes, heart and blood vessels, nervous system, skin and lungs. Some of which include, Retinal tears, Aortic aneurysms, Aortic dissections along with a myriad of other complications concerning the human body.

The Marfan syndrome affects men, women and children, and has been found among people of all races and ethnic backgrounds. It is estimated that at least 1 in 5,000 people in the United States have the disorder. Depending upon the severity of the syndrome in patients, joint and other skeletal problems can affect the ability to move around and overall quality of life. Symptoms often become worse with increasing age and are emerging as a significant management problem as those affected with Marfan syndrome are living longer lives due to the studies, and work of medical professionals dealing with Marfan syndrome.

The conference brings together those afflicted with the syndrome and their families to meet and discuss all forms of living with the syndrome and various treatment options available. Through knowledgeable professionals in the medical field that specialize in the treatment of Marfan syndrome.

According to experts on the disorder, tens of thousands of people with the Marfan syndrome in the U.S. are undiagnosed. During the conference The National Marfan Foundation holds an auction to benefit the scholarship foundation through donations from organizations, and individuals.The auction is called Heart Mart.
