AirTight's SpectraGuard and SAFE Products Achieve NIAP/Common Criteria Certification at EAL 2

Agencies
-- SpectraGuard SAFE Is the First End Point Wireless Security Product
Certified
-- SpectraGuard Enterprise Customer USAID Receives A+ Grade on FISMA
Report Card for Third Straight Year
AirTight® Networks, the leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention
solutions, today announced that two of its products -- SpectraGuard®
Enterprise, the enterprise scale WIPS solution, and SpectraGuard SAFE,
which protects laptop users from rapidly proliferating wireless attacks
such as Evil Twin, wireless phishing, ad hoc networking and more -- have
achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 certification from
the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria
Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS).
(http://www.niap-ccevs.org/cc-scheme/vpl/) SpectraGuard SAFE is the first
end point wireless security product to achieve this certification.
Common Criteria is an
internationally standardized framework for matching end-user security
requirements with vendor product specifications. For the U.S., the National
Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Policy No. 11
mandates that agencies reporting to the executive branch use Common
Criteria-evaluated equipment and software for networks carrying sensitive
information.
NIAP Common Criteria certification is mandated for wireless LAN equipment
installed at government agencies. With this certification, AirTight becomes
the premier vendor providing a total wireless intrusion prevention system
(WIPS) that meets U.S. government requirements as well as those of 22 other
countries that have adopted and recognize the Common Criteria as the
official third-party evaluation criteria for IT security procedures.
"The certification of both SpectraGuard Enterprise and SpectraGuard SAFE
validates AirTight's position as the leader in providing solutions, tested
under the most stringent U.S Common Criteria scheme, which meet the level
of security required by the U.S. Government," said David King, chairman and
CEO of AirTight Networks. "AirTight has a growing list of U.S. and Canadian
federal customers and we recognize that global enterprises must meet the
security criteria of their customers and foreign government agencies who
have adopted this standard. AirTight offers the most complete wireless
policy management and enforcement solution to those constituencies with the
assurance that the products meet or exceed stringent security standards."
According to Forbes, a report released in April by the House of
Representatives' Oversight Committee, the U.S. government has made some
improvement in its computer security, "but is still not very good at
protecting its most sensitive agencies from viruses, hackers and data breaches. The overall
low grades reflect a persistent government laxity on security, privacy and
citizens' personal information."
AirTight currently has several large federal deployments including USAID, which has consistently received a grade of A+ on the Federal
Computer Security Report Card for the past three years, the U.S. Army, the
US Postal Service and other U.S. and Canadian federal facilities and now
joins the list of prestigious global companies represented on the
NIAP/Validated Products List.
"We congratulate AirTight on its Common Criteria Certification which
reinforces our own in-depth product evaluation process that led us to
choose SpectraGuard over all other WIPS products," said Jason Figley, USAID
CISO Operations Manager. "We have deployed AirTight globally with excellent
performance results even in developing countries. SpectraGuard has
integrated well into our existing security monitoring infrastructure.
Having a WIPS provider of AirTight's quality that has successfully gone
through the Common Criteria Certification process should ease the burden of
testing and product evaluation required for other U.S. government agencies
as well as reducing the total cost of implementing a WIPS solution and the
time it takes to actually deploy it to the sites that require it."
"It is a challenge to meet the needs of an increasingly technical customer
base, while continuously seeking out and introducing solutions of
measurable value," said John Hall, vice president, sales and marketing, LTI
DataComm. "LTI DataComm's focus is to bring the best products and services
to the Federal Government by partnering with technology companies that meet
and exceed Federal standards. Our partnership with AirTight allows us to
offer our customers the most advanced WIDS/WIPS solutions on the market
which meet the strict standards of Common Criteria."
The AirTight Networks' WIPS solutions certified through this process cover
all aspects of wireless IPS protection to meet federal government
requirements -- large site or headquarters facilities, branch or field
office facilities, and laptops used in the field and not in a federally
protected facility.
About Common Criteria
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National
Security Agency (NSA) established the National Information Assurance
Partnership (NIAP) to evaluate IT product conformance to the Common
Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, an international
standard. The program, officially known as the NIAP Common Criteria
Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) is a partnership between the
public and private sectors to help organizations select commercial
off-the-shelf information technology (IT) products that meet their security
requirements and to help manufacturers of those products gain acceptance in
the global marketplace. Twenty-two countries now recognize the Common
Criteria as the official third-party evaluation criteria for IT security
procedures.
