VMware Adds Support for StorageCraft Backup Files in VMware Workstation 6

VMware Workstation 6 Supports StorageCraft ShadowProtect Images

StorageCraft Technology Corporation, a provider of innovative disk-based backup, disaster recovery, data protection, migration and security solutions for servers, desktops and laptops, announced VMware is including support for StorageCraft backup technology in VMware Workstation 6.

VMware is including support for StorageCraft ShadowProtect™ image files in VMware Workstation 6 to allow conversion of an existing StorageCraft backup image file (.spf) into a VMware virtual machine. Administrators can use VMware Workstation 6 and convert their existing StorageCraft backup images to restore systems in a virtual environment (P2V).

VMware Workstation 6 enables users to run multiple operating systems on a single PC. The inclusion of StorageCraft ShadowProtect support in VMware Workstation 6 is part of a partnership agreement announced earlier this year between StorageCraft Technology Corporation and VMware, the global leader in software for industry-standard virtualized desktops and servers.

"The ability to recover a virtual machine using existing ShadowProtect backup images gives IT administrators an extremely quick method of recovery from a catastrophic failure," said Brandon Nordquist, vice president of product management for StorageCraft.
