Record Attendance for Folsom Garden show

The Folsom (California) Garden Club has an annual Garden show. Throughout the year, members take note of attractive gardens in various areas of Folsom - which now has a population of around 70,000. This year, six interesting and beautiful gardens were chosen for the tour.

The well-organized club fielded 24 enthusiastic members acting as guides, who steered over 420 visitors through the six beautiful gardens. Thanks to the club members and the six garden owners for preparing and showing their gardens, the tour was a great success.

This is a rose garden in the Folsom historic district.

A central Arbor with two white Banksia roses arches over the path and steps, with a small lush green lawn on either side, each with its own crepe myrtle sapling. Each of the lawns is surrounded by a variety of standard and tree roses. Down the side of the house, a long row of Carolina Laurels and Capitol Pear trees line the old brick path, protecting a rhododendron, camellias and azaleas.

So many people were interested in the rose names, but said they wouldn't remember them all, that we decided to list the varieties here.

On the left side, next to the weeping cherry, the roses, from left to right are: Honey Perfume, Mystery Rose, Wildfire, Countess Celeste, Shocking Blue, Just Joey, Moonstone, Brandy, Banksia, Nacy Reagan.

The mystery rose is still unknown. All we know is that it is a beautiful, vibrant blue/purple, with a lovely fragrance.
Hundreds of people asked for the name of the rose and it is the only one that nobody knew.

On the right side, from left to right, is the second Banksia, Countess Celeste and Nancy Reagan at the front, then at the back left, mostly obscured, the fabulous Disneyland, Shocking Blue, Wildfire, another Disneyland, Queen Elizabeth, Diana Princess of Wales, Arizona (obscured), Nancy Reagan, Portland (obscured) - a David Austin rose and Honey Perfume.

The perfumes range from extremely faint to strong - all beautiful.

It turned out to be a perfect day. The Folsom Garden Club organized everything perfectly - volunteers handled the signs, publicity and tickets, the weather was perfect and the gardens were all beautifully presented. It was so good, I want to do it again!
