Earth Day Network, Evangelical Leader to Celebrate Call to Conscience
Service Part of Nationwide Series of Earth Day Sermons
On Sunday, April 22, Earth Day 2007, Earth Day Network will partner with Washington National Cathedral to create a special Earth Day service featuring Reverend Richard Cizik, Vice President of Government Affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals. The free service will begin at 11 A.M.
The service is one of hundreds of observances by religious and faith communities nationwide committed to addressing global warming for Earth Day 2007. Rev. Cizik is scheduled to participate in the liturgy. Due to a change in schedule, singer Sheryl Crow will not be participating in the service.
"Religious leaders, scientists and environmentalists all find common ground on the need for immediate action on global warming," said Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers. "This Earth Day, observances nationwide will spread the important message of faith that we must be responsible stewards of our earth and reduce our contribution to global warming pollution."
Earth Day Network is creating local, regional and national alliances to insure that religious and faith communities are engaged in the effort to address climate change. As part of its mission to broaden the environmental movement, Earth Day Network is reaching out to these communities to partner in the worldwide effort to reduce the manmade causes of global warming.
Earth Day Network, www.earthday.net, seeks to grow and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable planet. It pursues these goals through education, politics, cultural events, and consumer activism. More than one billion people are expected to participate in Earth Day civic activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world. The 38th Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22nd 2007.
The Earth Day service at Washington National Cathedral coincides with the National Cathedral's observance of Texas State Day.
