Step Into the Past on Sutter Street: The "Heart" of Folsom Since 1851

Four city blocks, filled with antiques & collectibles, great food & live entertainment, come rain or shine

Local antique collectors and visitors join antique enthusiasts from Northern and Central California when the Folsom Historic District Association hosts their 41st Annual Spring Antique Fair on Sunday, April 15 on Sutter Street, Folsom. Thousands of shoppers will fill the four-block historic district for this popular event. Many longtime collectors start their search early by flashlight.

Free light rail transportation

Visitors enjoy the convenience of free light rail transportation to Regional Transit's new station at the foot of Sutter Street. The free tickets are distributed at Iron Point, Glenn & Hazel Stations, compliments of Regional Transit.

This year's Antique Fair features a wide range of antique and collectible merchandise: Glass, china, pottery and porcelain, including Depression Glass, elegant glass of the depression era, American pattern glass, California pottery and Limoges; American and European furniture, including Hoosier cabinets, pie cupboards, bookcases, bedroom suites, and dining sets; Country and Primitives, including cast iron, ice cream and Bakelite gaming items, old farm equipment, tools, and trunks; Estate and vintage jewelry, watches and accessories; Paper Collectibles, including post cards, books, old sheet music, sports and movie memorabilia, and advertising signs; Prints and paintings; Clothing and Textiles, including vintage furs and linens; silver and silverplate; and musical memorabilia including hand-crank phonographs and records (78 and LP.)

Featured special services this weekend include: Verbal identification and evaluation of family treasures or garage sale finds by Gary Cox. Mr. Cox is well known locally for his work with the Crocker Museum, KVIE's Central Valley Chronicles and local historical societies. Most recently he appeared with the Folsom History Museum's 9th Annual Evaluation Day and is a frequent appraiser with Twin Bridges Appraisers' Panels.

Verbal appraisals are available for $5 per item. Mr. Cox is also available to arrange for a formal appraisal of individual items or estates for insurance purposes or for sale. He will be set up near the Folsom History Museum in the 800 block of Sutter Street.

Quality repair of glass and china

Judy and Kenny Lang of Miracle Glass of Grass Valley will accept pieces for repair or restoration at the Sutter Street event. Miracle Glass is known throughout California and Oregon for their quality repair and restoration services. Because this is an outdoor show, Kenny will not be able to do on-site repairs as weather affects his work. Convenient pickup and drop off locations will be provided. Miracle Glass will be located in the 600 block of Sutter Street.

Food and Entertainment Court

A Food and Entertainment Court offer shoppers a great selection of food and beverages. Weary shoppers may take a break in a covered seating area adjacent to live entertainment. Featured performers will be local favorites Captain and the Diva, a popular local group known for their superb renditions of "classic hits," authentically covering every style from the early rock of the 50's right up to present day adult contemporary. Captain and the Diva perform from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the 800 block of Sutter Street near Pachanga's.

Also returning this Spring is Oscar Reynolds, Bolivian master flutist and guitarist. A leading advocate and ambassador of his native country's music, this multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer, flute-maker, and composer originally from La Paz, Bolivia, has a unique musical style that is distinctly Bolivian combined with Afro-Andean and Flamenco influences. Mr. Reynolds will perform throughout the day in the 700 block of Sutter Street across from the Hacienda del Rio.

Motoshi Kosako, harpist with the Stockton Symphony, will perform for the first time on Sutter St. Mr. Kosako will perform near Chicago Fire in the 600 block of Sutter Street.

The Food and Entertainment Court as well as food service throughout Sutter Street offer shoppers a great selection from breakfast burritos and Belgian waffles to a variety of barbecued and grilled items to tempting snacks such as Kettlecorn, ice cream, waffle cones, shave ice, roasted nuts, and tempting desserts, plenty of hot and cold drinks including espresso and smoothies, and for the discriminating canine shopper, gourmet dog treats!

The 41st Annual Spring Antique Fair takes place Sunday, April 15, rain or shine, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (or come early and bring your flashlight!) on Historic Sutter Street in Folsom. Shoppers may avoid parking hassles by taking advantage of free Light Rail tickets, available from participating Sutter Street merchants beginning April 1, as well as on the day of the event, April 15, at the Iron Point, Glenn and Hazel Stations, compliments of Regional Transit (first light rail train arrives on Historic Sutter Street at 9:55 a.m.). This event is made possible in part by support from Folsom Auto Mall, The Folsom Historic District Association, Alley Development Corporation, Bernau Development Corporation, The Folsom Telegraph, Murray's Power House Pub, Peoples' Folsom Lake Chrysler-Jeep and Snook's Chocolate Factory of Folsom.
