Organic Growing Systems Incorporated Announces Completion of Factory Acquisition -- Sales Continue to Expand
Organic Growing Systems, Inc. (OGSI), a
subsidiary of Advanced Growing Systems (PINKSHEETS: AGWS), has completed
its acquisition of the Monticello, MS factory from Agreaux Organics, Inc.
Operating now in complete control of all phases of manufacturing, OGSI is
working closely with local and regional sources of raw materials and
services. Les Johnson, president of Agreaux Organics, Inc., will remain
involved in the production of the organic fertilizer as a consultant to
OGSI.
Following the final meetings in Mississippi, Chris Nichols, Chairman of
Advanced Growing Systems, Inc. stated: "AGWS is now in a position to
effectively operate in the growing marketplace for organic fertilizers.
The factory provides us with the tools needed to control sales to our
rapidly increasing customer base and maintain a healthy gross profit
margin. Additionally, we are in a much more flexible position to respond
directly to our larger customers' needs and inputs."
Local attention is also focused on the new infusion of capital into
southern Mississippi. Corporate officers of OGSI have had several meetings
with local government, state and economic development officials. Key to
this involvement will be work undertaken by Les Johnson. When asked about
the future of manufacturing organic fertilizer, Mr. Johnson stated: "The
future of organic fertilizer is bright. There is a growing recognition of
what organic products can do for our health and for our environment. Tests
from around the world have found organically grown products to be as much
as twenty percent more nutritious than those grown conventionally. With
better nutrition comes better health. Organic fertilizer is safe to use and
safe around our children and pets. It is not as likely to leach into the
ground water, and requires less water for maintenance of our lawns and
gardens. I am pleased to see the expansion of OGSI into Lawrence County.
Among other things, it will mean more jobs for this community and it offers
a better way to utilize more of the waste and byproducts of our poultry
industry."
Production at the factory will be accelerated in time to meet the increased
demand for fertilizer during the Fall. Using engineering expertise along
with Mr. Johnson's experience, the plant output is expected to double.
Organic Growing Systems, Inc., has been in discussions with several key
clients and prospects in recent weeks. Control of production and the
ability to meet its needs has been the focus of corporate activity. After
gaining the renewal of the Harris County Flood Control contract for another
year, the Company has secured a letter of recommendation from the Flood
Control District that is being provided to officials of the Texas
Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of Environmental
Control. Both these organizations recognize the protection afforded to the
environment with the use of organic fertilizers and have sought OGSI's
input.
"Florida officials have stated their interest in using organic fertilizer
as a water protection device. We can demonstrate that it also has a
relationship to the amount of water needed in gardening, agriculture, etc.,
thus having a major impact on their programs," stated Dr. Martin Reiner,
President of OGSI.
In a related effort, OGSI will be supporting ongoing research at
Mississippi State University which is examining the impact of poultry
litter-based organic fertilizer on plant growth and will next examine water
utilization by plants grown with this organic fertilizer.
While pursuing these directions, Organic Growing Systems, Inc. is also
forging new relationships with commercial and wholesale nurseries. Both
their suppliers and customers are prime candidates for conversion to
organic fertilizers, particularly as the price of synthetics continues to
increase.
