Canada's New Government Invests $4.4 Million to Help Job Seekers in Campbell River

CAMPBELL RIVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA - (CCNMatthews - April 2, 2007) - Mr. Dick Harris, Member of Parliament for Cariboo, Prince George, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding of more than $4.4 million for the North Island Employment Foundations Society, which helps people looking for jobs in Campbell River and the surrounding areas.

"Canada's New Government is pleased to work closely with community organizations to help people participate fully in the labour market," said Mr. Harris. "Organizations such as this allow area residents to find and maintain employment right here in Campbell River."

This funding will help the North Island Employment Foundations Society continue to operate its Employment Resource Centre, which provides access to employment related resources, computer work stations, and the Internet. The foundation also conducts community employment forums and helps clients develop, implement and maintain action plans for returning to work. Outreach services will also be available at Quadra Island, Cortes Island, Gold River, Tahsis, Sayward, Woss, and Zeballos.

"Our organization plays an important role in helping individuals in the community who are seeking employment, especially youth and those facing multiple barriers," said Doug Preston, Executive Director, North Island Employment Foundations Society. "We are very happy to work with the Government of Canada to ensure that people in Campbell River and the surrounding area receive the services and support they need."

Service Canada provides Canadians with one-stop, easy-to-access, personalized service. It brings Government of Canada services and benefits together in a single delivery network. Canadians can access services however they choose - by phone, Internet, mail, or in person.
