UPI Energy LP: Guelph Gas Station Offers E85 to Motorists

E85 is a premium quality, high octane, gasoline, which contains up to 85% ethanol and UPI's high quality unleaded gasoline. The resulting blend offers the highest octane available in Ontario. And, like all of UPI's ethanol-blended gasolines, it's made from ethanol produced right here in Ontario, which means a boost to Ontario's economy, and another market for corn growers. The environmental footprint left from E85 is the least significant possible for any gasoline product. E85 benefits the environment by lowering vehicle carbon monoxide emissions, generating less carbon dioxide discharge, and releasing fewer volatile organic compounds and particulate matter than either 10% ethanol-blended or conventional gasolines.

UPI is a forerunner in the marketplace, with innovative, environmentally friendlier fuels. UPI was the first fuel supplier to offer ethanol-blended gasolines to both the farm and motorists across Ontario in 1993. They followed up that success with the launch of Biodiesel in 2003, and now with E85, they are further expanding into the renewable fuels market.

Q: What is UPI's E85?
A: UPI introduces its newest product - E85, a blend of high octane,
   water-free ethanol, produced from corn or similar starches, and
   UPI's high quality unleaded gasoline. The proportions are usually
   blended with 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline; the percentage of gasoline
   enhances starting in extremely cold weather. The blending will vary 
   slightly by season, and will have up to 85% ethanol content.

Q: How does E85 benefit the environment?
A: E85 lowers the carbon monoxide emissions, as the ethanol oxygenates the
   fuel. In addition, there are lower net carbon dioxide emissions, and 
   fewer emissions of volatile organic compounds and particulate matter.
   In addition, there is the reduction of the environmental costs and risks
   associated with the exploration, extraction and transportation of fossil
   fuels.

Q: What other advantages does E85 offer?
A: UPI's E85 provides consumers with a high octane gasoline, which relies
   less on imported light crude oil, ensures a cleaner burning engine, and
   improved vehicle performance. The ethanol component also expands market
   opportunities for Canadian farmers, and provides some economic 
   opportunities for rural Canada.

Q: Is it okay to use in my engine?
A: UPI's E85 is safe to use in all Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFV). Currently,
   several auto manufacturers produce vehicles that are able to run on any
   combination of ethanol and gasoline, with up to 85% ethanol in the
   mixture. Ford has been manufacturing FFVs since 1999; in addition there
   are current FFVs available on the market from Chrysler, Dodge, 
   Chevrolet, GMC, Nissan, Mercedes, Mazda and Isuzu. Please check with 
   your vehicle manufacturer before using E85.

Q: How do I know if my car or truck is a Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV)?
A: Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) with the model and VIN
   numbers on the E85 website (www.e85fuel.com). Remember that vehicles
   may vary from Canada to USA and checking your individual VIN number is
   the best method. If you are not sure contact the service department of 
   your car or truck dealer.

Q: What happens when E85 is not available?
A: Flexible Fuel Vehicles allows the driver to use a combination of regular
   gasoline/ethanol from 100 % regular gasoline to 85% ethanol blended 
   gasoline. A driver can use regular gasoline if E85 is not available.

Q: What fuel mileage should I expect?
A: A litre of E85 contains less energy per volume when compared to regular
   gasoline. E85 has a higher octane number than regular gasoline. 
   Flexible Fuel Vehicles using E85 gasoline have experienced a 10-15% 
   drop in fuel economy. This will vary based on the way one drives, the
   air pressure in the tires and additional driving conditions.
