St. Patrick's Day Lucky Bears
By Nancy Lee Wolfe
Two little bears were talking
Out near Lincoln Park today.
I eased up very softly
And heard the wee one say,
"Now, Teddy, please don't be that way.
I know your luck's been thin.
But the Shamrock and the berries
Will soon be growing here again."
She soothed his head. He turned and smiled.
He told her not to fret,
"All we luck Irish know d'score
A'fore we bet."
Ye can't be sure o' much," he said,
"Nor trust ere life will be balanced.
Ye can't much plan on d'will of God
Cause, at times, it's not even-handed."
"What we lucky Irish bear 'ave found
Is there's calm a'fore a storm.
That things look better in d'mornin'.
We'll be safe and dry and warm."
I heard him say, as they walked away,
And you instantly came to my mind,
"Having friends in life means believin'
That we're lucky in double-time."
