Crossfire War - NATO States Readiness to Confront Violence in Kosovo

Night Watch: PRISTINA - I suspect NATO realizes that its the Albanian community in Kosovo that is more likely to initiate the next war in the former Yugoslavia and not by attacking Serbs. Late last year crossfirewar.com reported a demonstration of 5,000 Albanians throwing stones at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo building in Pristina. More recently several vehicles belonging to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) were set on fire. And it has been the militant Albanian organization Vetevendosjc (Self-Determination) that has been leading the sometimes violent demonstrations demanding indpendence immediately. They, as well as the Albanian National Army (ANA) in Kosovo and Albania are armed. [
SERBIANNA]
NATO's leading general in the area stated the alliance was ready to confront any situation. U. S. Army General Bantz J. Craddock stated, "My intent was ... to assure the leadership here that NATO is ready and capable, and they will be a very important factor here in the days ahead." Analysts in the West are geniunely concerned at the impatience the Albanian community are displaying. That should not be surprising since no one in Southeast Europe trusts the UN or the governments in Western Europe and the U. S. which control it. So the Albanians are armed and Belgrade has re-equipped its military.
In the days ahead NATO-Brussels should expect no assistance from its two most strategic members, Greece-Turkey. In November Athens signed a security agreement with Belgrade as did Tehran in January last year. With the chaos that is coming NATO will have no chance to respond effectively.
