Update: Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales to Give Keynote at the IAPP Privacy Summit 07 in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales will address the largest international gathering of privacy pros on March 9 at the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) announced today.

Gonzales, the nation's 80th Attorney General, will give his keynote speech at 1:30 p.m. EST during the Summit's closing Plenary Lunch in the Grand Ballroom. Please note that this is a revised time and date from the initial announcement about AG Gonzales' keynote. Gonzales joins other high-profile keynote speakers, including the Federal Trade Commission Chairman, Deborah Platt Majoras, UK Information Commissioner Richard Thomas, Sun Microsystems Chair Scott McNealy and Sidley Austin Partner Alan Charles Raul, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the President's Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board.

"With privacy high on the legislative agenda in Washington today, privacy pros will be eager to hear the Attorney General address various domestic and global privacy issues that involve the Department of Justice."

Space will be limited for the keynotes address and other sessions programmed for the IAPP Privacy Summit, which is highly regarded for its combination of educational programs and networking forums.

The 2007 summit agenda will offer sessions across several industry sectors, with a particular focus on regulators, enforcement, vendor relationships and information-sharing.

The IAPP, the privacy profession's leading organization, also announced today that online registration is now closed. The IAPP will accept in-person registration only at the Renaissance Hotel beginning at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7.

Sworn in as the nation's 80th Attorney General on Feb. 3, 2005, Gonzales was commissioned in January 2001 as Counsel to President George W. Bush. Prior to serving in the White House, Gonzales served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. Before his appointment to the Texas Supreme Court in 1999, he served as Texas' 100th Secretary of State and was a senior advisor to then-Gov. Bush, chief elections officer and the Governor's lead liaison on Mexico and border issues.
