Family Ties/Dangerous LLC/Atlantic recording
artist Deemi is set for the world premiere of her eagerly anticipated debut
video, "Soundtrack of My Life," based on a true story. The companion clip
-- directed by Syndrome (Pretty Ricky, Lupe Fiasco, Mike Jones) -- to the
Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter's rising R&B smash will be unveiled today,
March 2nd on the "World's Most Dangerous Site," AllHipHop.com and can be
viewed at http://www.AllHipHop.com.
"Soundtrack of My Life" will impact at Urban radio outlets nationwide in
April, having already taken New York City by storm with raved-about
rotation on the city's influential Hot 97. Deemi's much anticipated debut
album, also dubbed "SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE," is slated to drop into stores
coast to coast on June 5th.
"Deemi has taken her truly remarkable real life experience and turned it
into a riveting personal soundtrack with universal appeal," said Atlantic
Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman. "Since signing her to Atlantic, we
have watched her channel her personal stories of deep struggle and ultimate
survival into the creation of a moving album of extraordinary power,
spirit, and emotion. This is a landmark premiere that we believe will
establish Deemi as one of the most important new and compelling voices in
modern music."
Tahu "Deemi" Aponte has drawn praise for her powerful vocals and equally
potent confessional songwriting, creating modern soul music that is as
vividly descriptive as it is emotionally charged. "SOUNDTRACK OF MY LIFE"
sees Deemi collaborating with acclaimed producers Midi Mafia (50 Cent's "21
Questions") and Chris Styles of Dangerous LLC (Christina Aguilera, G-Unit)
to create a graphic and unforgettable chronicle of her hard-fought life and
struggles on the mean streets of Bed-Stuy.
Along with the breakthrough title track, the album includes such highlights
as "Little Girl" (featuring fellow New Yorker, Remy Ma), the radio-friendly
"On The Radio," and the poignant "Sunshine," which sees Deemi offering her
thoughts and perspective on last year's tragic death of Nixmary Brown.
"She was a little girl who was killed by her stepfather," explains Deemi.
"Her death created a big uproar about New York's ACS (Administration for
Children's Services). She lived right around the corner from me, and
because I have kids of my own, I took it pretty hard. Nixmary Brown was
waiting for the sun to shine, like so many of us are, and this song is my
tribute to her."
"Soundtrack of My Life" has proven a true word-of-mouth hit, breaking out
from such mixtapes as "DJ SCOPE & DJ BIZ'S R&B OVERDRIVE" and "DJ FINESSE &
DJ ENVY'S RNB HEAT WAVE 2K6," to acclaim from a number of national
publications including Giant, Fader, and King. "Deemi recalls a young Mary
J. Blige," declared Vibe, going on to celebrate "her intimate lyrics and
hard-hitting vocals." XXL Presents Hip Hop Soul hailed "SOUNDTRACK OF MY
LIFE" for its "requisite Brooklyn swagger" and "rich and substantial tales
that transcends broken hearts and lovesickness." The New York Post named
Deemi as one of its "New Faces For '07," praising her as "an old fashioned
R&B singer...Deemi has sculpted her hard-knock experiences into a
compelling album."
Deemi is also a rising star online, with her own Deemi.com and
myspace.com/deemi. Along with streaming preview tracks from "SOUNDTRACK OF
MY LIFE," the MySpace page features "What's Your Struggle?," a weekly
advice column in which the singer offers assistance and support to those
fans going through their own difficulties and problems.
