Seductive Russia, India and China: Investors Knocking at the Gates, Reports The International Council of Institutional Investors
With the increasing role of globalization in the financial industry, the investment community has progressively gravitated towards Russia, India, and China.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (EWORLDWIRE) Feb 28, 2007
With the increasing role of globalization in the financial industry, the investment community has progressively gravitated towards the emerging markets. Attractive economic growth rates, general macroeconomic stability, and the massive purchasing power of a rising middle class present a compelling investment opportunity for the private equity asset class. Russia, India, and China ("RIC") have emerged as standouts and areas of significant opportunity.
Consequently, to provide the Western investment community with insightful information about global trends and to showcase private equity opportunities in leading emerging markets the International Council of Institutional Investors ("ICII") commenced the annual Emerging Markets Private Equity Conference ("EMPEC") under Mr. Primakov's leadership. ICII is pleased to announce the 2nd annual Emerging Markets Private Equity Conference (EMPEC 2007), which will take place on June 4-5, 2007 at the Congress Center of the Russian Federation Chamber of Commerce and Industry, located in the center of Moscow.
Russia, India and China combine to form huge domestic markets, growing hubs of technological innovation with a large pools of low-cost talent, and nascent competition than western markets. This has led to an increase in private equity professionals pursuing opportunities in the region. aAs capital inflows continue their dramatic growth, investment in Russiaas, Indiaas and Chinaas consumer and financial sectors are rapidly accelerating,a according to Boris Eykher, Co-founder of EMPEC. aWe are also seeing a growing interest in Indiaas and Chinaas telecom and IT sectors as investors seek to capitalize on the local enormous intellectual talent and emerging middle classa says George Elfond, Managing Director at International Council of Institutional Investors. The active role of private equity investors has forced improvements in corporate governance practices and led to improvements in their tax and legal structures. As a result, the RIC nations present an increasingly stable and investor-friendly business environment that should lead to increased foreign direct investment and sustained economic prosperity.
By way of background, in May 2006, the ICII pursued a joint initiative with several of today's emerging market political and economic thought leaders. The inaugural two-day EMPEC was held at the World Trade Center Moscow and featured several of the top decision-makers in private equity. These participates included world-class institutional investors such as New York State Common Retirement Fund, preeminent international private equity groups, including Texas Pacific Group, and global financial institutions such as the Overseas Private Investment Corporation Agency of the U.S. Federal Government. Key partners of the conference included the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the London Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, and Pacific Corporate Group, a leading private equity institutional advisory firm. Otkritie Asset Management, an institutional trust management firm, was the lead sponsor of the conference.
