Minister Day Applauds RCMP Efforts to Crack Down on Contraband Cigarettes in Manitoba


OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (CCNMatthews - Feb. 16, 2007) - Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released the following statement in response to news that the RCMP in conjunction with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has successfully seized more than one million cigarettes in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

"The seizure of these illegal cigarettes is testimony to our new government's unwavering commitment to tackle crime in our communities. I can assure Canadians that our police agencies will continue to zero in on those individuals who illegally sell products of this type.

On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I would like to thank the RCMP and the CBSA for another successful operation, and for their dedication to fighting crime and keeping our streets safe."
