StubHub FanStats(SM) -- Daytona 500 Sets the Standard for National Fan Appeal
47 U.S. States, Four Canadian Provinces and More Buy for NASCAR's Marquee Event

The 49th annual Daytona 500, NASCAR's
most prestigious race, is only days away and the "Super Bowl of racing" has
truly become a national draw. While the conventional wisdom is that the
race draws predominantly from the southern United States, sales data from
StubHub, the fan's ticket marketplace, shows fans from all corners of the
country will be in attendance. As is the case with many popular events,
racing fans, unsatisfied with the remaining tickets offered by the box
office, have turned to StubHub for the widest choice and selection of
seating options. StubHub's ticket data shows the largest concentration is
local Floridians, due in large part to the central proximity of Daytona
International Speedway. However, this year's Daytona 500 has already
attracted buyers from 47 U.S. states, as well as Washington D.C., Puerto
Rico, and four Canadian provinces. Ticket buyers come from as far as
Fairbanks, Alaska and Houlton, Maine. Over the course of the last four
years, the Daytona 500 has emerged from a regional event, attracting buyers
from 15 states, into one of the most nationally appealing events sold on
StubHub.
The truest indicator of fan demand and passion is the price buyers are
willing to pay for access to the event. StubHub has created the Daytona
500's Most Revved-Up Fans list, which ranks the top ten buying states,
based on the average price tickets have sold for in each respective state.
In order to qualify for the list, each state's sales had to comprise at
least 2% of StubHub's total Daytona 500 sales.
The Daytona 500's most revved-up fans can be found in Texas, as residents
have paid on average $358 to attend the event. According to StubHub sales
data, the range of tickets sold in Texas has been $117 for a seat in the
Oldfield Lower section to $1,217 for a ticket in the Nextel Tower. Second
on the list is the state of New Jersey, where buyers' steep demand has
yielded an average price of $342. Rounding out the top five are two more
northeastern and one western state -- Connecticut, California, then
Massachusetts, in order.
