Cadbury Thins(i)-The First-Ever 100 Calorie Chocolate Bar-is Now Canada's Favourite Chocolate Bar

  Share With Friends

TORONTO, ONTARIO - (CCNMatthews - Feb. 9, 2007) - Cadbury Thins(i), with only 100 calories per bar, has been voted Canada's favourite chocolate bar at the fourth annual Best New Product (BNP) Awards held last night. As Canada's first mainstream portion-controlled chocolate bar, it is now the best-selling bar in that category. Cadbury specifically designed Thins to meet women's desire for great-tasting indulgent chocolate without the extra calories and guilt. Showing consistent double digit growth since its launch, Cadbury Thins has become one of Cadbury's most successful chocolate bar launches.

"Cadbury Thins is a bull's-eye with women and that's why we've seen phenomenal growth - it resonates with women and meets their needs on an emotional and functional level," says Monica Tenorio, Director, Chocolate, Cadbury Adams Canada. "In developing Cadbury Thins we knew women would not compromise on taste for fewer calories and they also wanted smaller sizes so they could feel better about treating themselves - Cadbury Thins delivers on all of those and has become the new way to enjoy chocolate without the added guilt."

"I wanted to send a quick 'THANK YOU' for coming up with such a
great little chocolate bar as Thins...
I no longer have the 'guilt' associated with
indulging in a great chocolate bar.
Thanks for combining healthy lifestyle with life's
                       little pleasures."
                                                            Antonella

Launched in 2005 in milk and premium dark chocolate varieties, Cadbury Thins became an immediate success with sales growing more than 420% in the first six months alone. According to Tenorio, the Cadbury Adams phones were flooded with people calling to express their gratitude at Cadbury's solution to their chocolate dilemmas. Consumer response rapidly led to an expanded flavour line up with Cadbury Thins Toffee and Cadbury Thins Mint Chip varieties introduced last year, along with 6-packs, to meet the growing need for indulgent chocolate in a low-calorie count. Today, Cadbury Thins has topped $12 million in sales; an extraordinary accomplishment in an overly fragmented chocolate category with so many choices.

"Dear Cadbury Angels...Thins bars have brought chocolate to my life.
That means I can have a chocolate treat every day."

Sarah, a member of a national weight loss program

"Pink Ribbon" Multi-Packs

Building on the intimate understanding of what is important to women, Cadbury Thins has developed a partnership with The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. For each special "Pink Ribbon" 6-pack sold, Cadbury will donate 25 cents to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. These special 6-packs are available in four varieties, including Cadbury Thins Milk Chocolate, Cadbury Thins Toffee, Cadbury Thins Mint Chip, and an assorted 6-pack.

"Cadbury Thins brings perfect pleasure into the lives of women across Canada," says Tenorio. "With our partnership with The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, we're hoping to help find a cure so that we can bring smiles to women and their families in even more ways."

"I would like to express my absolute gratitude and delight
that your company has designed Thins for individuals like myself,
who cannot help but crave chocolate, but are also striving to eat healthy
                          portion sizes."
                                                                    Anita
