VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA - (CCNMatthews - Feb. 6, 2007) - Northern Star Mining Corp. (TSX VENTURE:NSM) is pleased to announce the scheduling of a 30,000 meter diamond drill program on its wholly owned Midway-Malartic project, located some 16 km west of the city of Val-d'Or, adjacent to east of the Cadillac Malartic Osisko gold project.
Recent exploration, compilation and interpretation suggest that on the Midway-Malartic project, gold mineralization is associated with gabbro bodies in close proximity to porphyries.
Numerous porphyries have been already identified on the project from past exploration, located both east-southeast of shaft no.1, where Northern Star is currently concentrating its exploration efforts, and additional porphyries are also being compiled west-southwest of shaft no. 1.
In the immediate area, the porphyries are well known for large tonnage, low grade exploration targets.
The Company expects to begin the start up of its exploration drill program, on the region outside of shaft no. 1, prior to the end of February.
Mr. Claude Larouche, MSc geol. ing. (OIQ) consultant to the Company has revised the contents of this press release and is acting as the QP (Qualified Person).
Further news will be released as available.
ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD
