On Tuesday, January 16, 2007 construction begins on the Folsom, California Historic District Parking Structure. Once completed, the new structure will provide over 300 new parking spaces for Historic District visitors and light rail patrons.

The parking structure is designed to fit in with the character of the Historic District, as part of the Folsom Historic District Revitalization project, now in progress. Project Management responsibility for Revitalization is assigned to Jeff Ferreira-Pro, of FEDCorp, the Folsom Economic Development Corporation.

The project will impact parking availability in the Historic District for the 12-month duration, primarily in the turntable parking lot on the west half of the Railroad Block.

In order to maximize parking availability for Historic District shoppers, visitors, and employees, the City will be posting 3-hour time limit parking on all remaining parking lots and on-street parking spaces, with the exception of the two Light Rail Park-and-Ride lots located on Leidesdorff Street west of the Light Rail station. These parking limits are depicted on the map on the reverse side of a flyer and will be strictly enforced.

Light Rail Commuters are encouraged to consider using an alternate park-and-ride location if the Historic District lots are full. Parking is available at the Glenn Drive, Iron Point and Hazel Avenue LRT stations.

Questions regarding the project or parking restrictions can be directed to the Folsom Public Works Department at 355-7272. The city is asking for patience and cooperation during the project, which will eventually bring great benefit to the Historic District.
