Crossfire War - Pres. Musharraf Attends Military Maneuvers

By Willard Payne

Crossfire War - RIYADH WATCH - South Asia Theatre: Riyadh - Tehran - Muscat - Kabul - Dakha - Islamabad/Delhi; President General Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan Attends Joint Military Exercises - Desert Training - With Royal Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia - Eastern Punjab Province - India Border

Night Watch: BAHAWALPUR - The day after India's government contemptuously rejected a serious four point peace proposal from Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, he attended the joint military exercises between the Royal armed forces of Saudi Arabia and elements of Pakistan's military. The joint maneuvers have been codenamed Al-Samsaam - 2 (Sharp Sword) and are a sequel to regular maneuvers the two countries have been conducting for at least the past several years, mostly naval. Two years ago, crossfirewar.com mentioned the very same kind of war games held by both countries in Pakistan. [AKI]

The Saudi Royal armed forces are working with units of Pakistan's, armor-infantry-artillery-air defence-aviation and air force. Both governments, not to mention other Islamic governments, knew Delhi was going to reject the proposal, they definitely know their enemy, but they had Musharraf present it one last time before Islamic militant units force Delhi to attack their bases in either Pakistan's part of Kashmir or in Bangladesh. Musharraf also presented the proposal as a matter of historical record, coupled now with Delhi's rejection.

The House of Saud does not want to wait much longer to find out how accurate the 50-60 CSS-2 missiles they purchased from Beijing 20 years ago are. The missiles have a 2,500 mile (4,000 km) range and can easily strike all of India. Riyadh has always refused Washington permission to have the missiles inspected, probably because there is a small nuclear warhead on them, that I believe is designated the W-88. Quite a few of Iran's Shahab missiles will also be launched in India's direction. Fortunately, not all bombs and missiles are going to work, some will miss, others will be duds. Some of course will work. Even a conventional bomb or artillery shell can be a dud and they can also miss. Nothing works as well as advertised.

That is not only true concerning Saudi Arabia's arsenal. It is also true of any nation's military inventory. Several years ago, in the late 90s CNN showed a stockpile of American nuclear warheads at some base somewhere out West. The warheads looked at least 40 years old and they were all rusty. Even the newer ones, even the most recent equipment is doubtful since weaponry and guidance systems are so intricate, fragile and weather sensitive.
