Marygrove College Celebrates the Holidays With Free Concerts, December 2 & 10
DETROIT, Nov. 30, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Marygrove College will host two free musical performances to celebrate the Christmas holidays.
On Saturday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m., Professor Sue Vanderbeck Lenz and Professor Emerita Elaine Grover perform "A Fireside Christmas" in the Madame Cadillac Building on Marygrove's campus. Together for their seventh year as "KeyDuets," "A Fireside Christmas" will feature piano duet repertoire including Appalachian Christmas Carols by Vincent Persichetti; Three English Dances by Roger Quilter; and holiday music from around the world.
The KeyDuets have just released their newest CD titled "A Holiday Greeting from KeyDuets," which will be available for purchase at the concert.
On Sunday, December 10, at 5 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel on Marygrove's campus, the Marygrove College Chorale will present "Christmas Through the Ages," a concert of festive music of the season from the 11th through the 21st centuries, featuring compositions by Pinkham, Britten, Byrd, Dawson, Vaughan Williams and others. The concert includes organ, brass and hand bells and a Christmas carol sing-along.
Marygrove College offers undergraduate degrees in sacred music, music theory and composition, piano pedagogy, music performance for organ, piano and voice as well as music education. Marygrove also grants a certificate in sacred music. The College is an independent liberal arts college located at 8425 W. McNichols Rd. in Detroit. More than 1,200 students attend classes in its undergraduate and graduate programs in education, business, human resource management, social justice, social work, science, theater and the fine arts in addition to music.
