Toy Inventor Shoots Himself!
Quik Pod™ First Extendable Hand-Held Tripod in the World
Two years ago, Toronto-based toy inventor Wayne Fromm was traveling with his family and was tired of asking strangers to operate his camera for a family photo. The option of holding his arm out with his camera aimed at the group produced terrible results with heads unintentionally cut out of the picture and got him thinking. This musing led him to invent the Quik Pod, an item that can be best described as an "extendable hand-held tripod" that lets you properly frame and photograph yourself with your friends and family.

Fromm's goal that has invented and marketed nearly fifty successful commercial products and who is particularly known for his toy creations including Disney's Beauty and the Beast Talking Mirror was to build a compact, handheld tripod. Over one hundred prototypes were created before he successfully manufactured the world's first pocket size extendable, handheld tripod for digital cameras and camcorders, the Quik Pod™. A person simply holds the extended Quik Pod™ with the camera facing their face and the camera takes their photo or video without the help of strangers.
And the reaction to the Quik Pod™? "I took it on a cruise to Cozumel last month and people from all over wanted to buy one, even a research scientist from New York!" says Fromm. "I use it wherever I go. I would buy one even if I hadn't invented it." Michael Holmes, Category Manager for Black's Photography had this to add,"The Quik Pod solves an everyday problem for photographers. We're glad to be able to make it available to our customers". And Larry Sherman, a customer stated about his recent purchase, "I can finally take group pictures that include me for a change."

The Quik Pod™ is made of sturdy polycarbonate and aluminum. It weighs less than 100 grams and comes with a built in self-positioning mirror and hiking clip. Even though the Quik Pod was created to solve a specific problem, Fromm envisions a wider appeal "I can see video bloggers using it to film themselves, making their own movies, at three in the morning," Fromm told a reporter at the Toronto Star. And addressing this option, he is about to launch a new website where amateurs will be able to post their news and views from around the world. Musing some more…
