Crossfire War - TEHRAN WATCH - Southeast Europe Theatre: Tehran - Istanbul - Belgrade/Vienna - Brussels - Rome; Former President of Iran Mohammad Khatami Arrives in Istanbul - Under Guise of Dialogue - Confirmation of Islamic Axis - Turkey - Iran
Night Watch: ISTANBUL - Under the guise of Alliance of Civilizations the real leader of Tehran's foreign policy, the Jihad, Mohammad Khatami, is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul on Saturday. Khatami is Iran's former President and right after their national elections last year Khatami was given a new position, Head of the Association of Combatant Clerics. As a senior cleric he is more of a representative of Iran's foreign policy than their current President since clerics assumed the leadership of Iran's international relations ever since the Khomeini revolution 1979. Iran's current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not a cleric. Khatami began his deceptive dialogue, lecture series, ever since his first term as President 1997-2001. In September 2000 Khatami attended and addressed the United Nations opening in New York and announced "2001 is the year of the dialogue." [

Khatami passed through Vienna, last November, lecturing on "annihilation of weapons of mass destruction." But if he had spoken more candidly he would have said instead annihilation of Vienna, since Vienna is the headquarters of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and they have led the international community's investigation into Iran's nuclear weapons program. Tehran of course never welcomed the investigation and only pretended to cooperate, a pretension that still exists to this day but that charade is about to end.
Tehran's real response will be to encourage fighting to resume in the Balkans and Ankara is in complete agreement otherwise Khatami would not be coming to Istanbul. In preparation for the resumption of war, in the former Yugoslavia, Tehran signed a security agreement with Belgrade last January. Tehran is aware fighting over Kosovo, between Serbia and Albanian militia units, could break out any moment. A resumption of war in that theatre Tehran intends to use to silence Vienna and to defeat Brussels- NATO's response.
It was during 1992 when Tehran established formal diplomatic relations with every capital in the former Yugoslavia since Iran knew the West had put itself completely out of position in not only recognizing the division but gradually becoming more involved militarily through the UN, NATO and the new European Union military. The West's increasing military commitment in the Balkans reduces their presence on other fronts, especially the energy strategic Caucasus - Caspian. When Tehran established its relations with Zagreb, Croatia's capital Iran announced Croatia was their entry into Central Europe. Berlin got the hint and sent to Poland Leopard tanks. Washington followed suit and signed a 2003 agreement to equip Poland's airforce with 48 F-16s. The first four will arrive Thursday. Unfortunately the rest are not due to arrive until 2007 and 2008. When fighting resumes I suspect their delivery schedule will be increased. [IRNA]
A year after the 2003 sale of the fighters was signed Iran's then Defense Minister Admiral Ali Shamkani visited Warsaw during the spring of 2004. He was probably there to spy on Poland's new Leopard tanks. Moscow has also been helping to upgrade Poland's Soviet era fighter planes. Someone will have to hold the line somewhere. At the height of the Ottoman Empire there was a siege of Vienna which was lifted by a Polish Count.
One of the most telling indications of Tehran-Ankara's foreign policy cooperation was in late 2000 when Reuters reported Iran and Turkey were comparing intelligence information but they wouldn't say about where. A few months later fighting erupted in Macedonia. With Iran completing its final series of maneuvers, "Muhammad Messenger of Allah" wargames, it will not take long for the world to see the results of Iran's military preparations. [IRNA]
