Busy day for CIMIC
We provided electricity for 160 houses in Shamiya and 20 wheelchairs for disabled children. All of this happened within few hours. It was a busy day. - says LTC Andrew Kujawa, Commander of Polish CIMIC Group. Cost of these two projects extends much over 130,000 $ but for Iraqi citizens they are just invaluable.
As always, before handing over the project to Iraqi citizens, CIMIC group had to check all works of the contractor to make sure that everything was made properly. CIMIC Group patrol reached Al Elwayat (district of Shamiya) early in the morning. MND CS soldiers immediately started the procedure of checking every detail connected with overhead line of the new electricity network. "We checked everything connected to our project: poles, electricity lines and firs of all transformers. - says CPT Leszek Radzik, Project Purchase Officer - We had no remarks, the whole electricity line works properly and I hope that inhabitants of Shamiya will use it for many years".
This kind of patrols is always dangerous for MND CS soldiers due to unstable security situation in Al Quadisiyah province. This time they found something, that they didn't expected. An elementary school is placed in the vicinity of the project area. "Suddenly we were surrounded by a large group of children - laughs LTC Kujawa - it's nice to see so many smiling faces all around. This school has its own electricity network already, but since now these children will have electricity also in their homes".
After returning to Camp ECHO CIMIC Group of soldiers had no time to rest. Another project had to be fulfilled. It was a part of humanitarian aid provided by MND CS. This time the help went to "Organization of Disabled Children". They received 20 wheelchairs as the first part of the project. Polish CIMIC Group handed over already almost 250 wheelchairs for handicapped in the MND CS Area of Responsibility.
