'California Connected' - L.A. Port Pollution Update
By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze
Clearing The Air
Southern California has the worst air quality in the United States, and the Los Angeles - Long Port Complex is the No. 1 polluter in the state.
Residents around the Port Complex say the air there is making them sick. In fact, state agencies estimate that 1,200 Southern Californians die every year from the soot and smog coming from those ports.
Correspondent Bob Jimenez talks to one mother who lives down the block from the Port Complex and claims both her children have debilitating asthma because of the air quality. With mounting pressure from neighborhood groups and alarming scientific data collected around the area, Port officials agreed to work together to clear the air.
The plan is bold and expensive. California Connected talks to residents, takes a look at the plan, and asks about the strategy to pay for it.
