MCM to Incorporate First-of-its-Kind Downloadable Finisher Certificate

New technology to provide runners finish data as never before

QUANTICO, VA - After Marine Corps Marathon runners complete their 26.2 miles journey on October 29, they will be able to commemorate and re-live their excitement with special finisher resources. In addition to producing a commemorative CD, the MCM will present split and results times, individual runner photos, graphics-based results, a searchable database and the new downloadable finisher certificate.

Beginning Sunday afternoon, October 29, MCM runners will be able to access unofficial results on the MCM website, www.marinemarathon.com. Later in the day, MarathonFoto will begin to post runner photos from more than 10 locations along the course. Runners simply input their last name and bib number to obtain access to the photos.

Additionally, runners can picture themselves against the competition, literally, with the new RunPix technology. RunPix is a virtual graphical system incorporating electronic timing data and providing insight into the race journey. The personal achievement of each finisher is displayed using technology that presents result times, placing and pace as colorful images.

In November, for the first time ever, runners will be able to download their finisher certificate. Suitable for framing, this certificate commemorates the runner's official results and preserves the data for a lifetime of memories.

"The MCM has always been on the cutting edge of race technology from being among the first races to utilize a wireless network to track runners, to incorporating the interactive results CD," said Rick Nealis, Marine Corps Marathon Race Director. "I am excited to offer new RunPix technology and a downloadable finisher certificate to make the marathon experience more memorable and enjoyable for our runners."

Finishers will also receive an interactive results CD, thanks to a partnership with the Iowa-based MarathonFoto. Runners will be invited to click through a multimedia showcase of the 2006 marathon including winners, results, a photo slide show from the run, a searchable results database and a congratulations letter from the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Voted "Best Marathon for Families" by HerSports Magazine, the Marine Corps Marathon continues a combined tradition of dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism. Since its inception, over 300,000 civilian and military runners from all walks of life have participated, deservingly earning the event its nickname "The People's Marathon." The 31st Marine Corps Marathon to be held on October 29, 2006 in Arlington, VA is presented by USAA, Brooks Sports, Inc., and Cisco Systems. Visit marinemarathon.com for more information.
