Fallen Soldiers and Gold Star Families Join Together
A local group, the Ad Hoc Committee to Honor Fallen Soldiers and Gold Star Families, is proud to participate with an urgent call for Nationwide Teach-Ins by Historians Against the War, an American led group of 2033 teachers, scholars, and historians, who have offered their expertise in history to lead teach-ins and discussion groups during the past three years all over the U.S.
To facilitate a local Teach-In, the Ad Hoc Committee has invited William Marina, FAU professor emeritus and co- author of two books currently in print: Rendezvous with Greatness: The 75th Anniversary of the University of Miami, 1926-2001, and A History of Florida, 3rd Edition. He is the founder of an educational foundation building a community center in Jamaica and facilitating the education of people in sustainable lifestyles in the U.S. and less developed countries
As an outstanding faculty member for Broward campus in 2000-01, for Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Bill Marina, Fulbright Scholar in 1988 working in Korea and Taiwan, he also worked for The Templeton Foundation's International Freedom Project. Marina served as Senior Economist with the Joint Economic Committee of the Congress in 1981. Knowledgeable about the American Revolution, Egalitarianism and Empire, Black Education in Florida, Weapons, Technology and Legitimacy, Marina has written or contributed to articles and papers on all these subjects.
His topic for this Teach-In will be "America Confronts a Revolutionary World: George W. Bush's List of Evil Doers-It keeps growing since 9/11, Doesn't It?-a lively talk about the history of the Middle East, the current war in Iraq, and its effects for us, short and long term. Questions and answers will be taken after the lecture. It will be held at Sebastian River High School on October 28, 2006 at 3:00.
