FAIR OAKS'toberfest A Huge Success! Over 2700 Attendees Drain the Kegs Dry
Sacramento, CA - "Where's the beer!?!?" That was the collective chant of late-comers to the Second Annual Fair Oaks'toberfest held Saturday, September 30, at beautiful Fair Oaks Park, where over 2300 drinkers and 400 designated drivers enjoyed great food, live music and unlimited beer drinking... well almost!
"Support for this fundraiser exceeded our wildest expectations," says Matson Breakey, co-founder of the event, "and as a result the beer donated by area and regional breweries started to run out as early as 3:00. If you arrived late, you were pretty much out of luck."
According to Matson, the doors opened at 1:00pm and most of the attendees arrived by 2:30, but "those who arrived to buy tickets on-site after 2:30 were finding that the beer was almost gone. At 3:00 we reduced the donation price for tickets to $10 with a caveat of 'not much beer left' and at 3:30 we posted a SOLD OUT sign at the ticket booth and closed the gate to new entries." Sacramento Brewing, a sponsor of the event, helped by bringing more kegs from Oasis, their award-winning brewery down the street from Fair Oaks Park.
"We are very thankful to all the Sacramento media outlets who supported our event," Matson adds, "it truly made a difference in our attendance and in the fundraising for the Fair Oaks Recreation Foundation."
Organizers confirmed there will definitely be a Third Annual, noting that the breweries have learned their lesson and will know how much beer to bring in 2007.
"We are proud to bring such a successful event to the area," says Matson "and while we will be discussing organizational logistics and kinks to be worked out, the return of the FAIR OAKS'toberfest for years to come is a definite guarantee!"
The Fair Oaks Recreation Foundation is the sole beneficiary of the fundraising for the days event. In 2005, the Foundation asked Matson and his partners, Brian Freeman and Dwight Bradish to develop a fundraiser similar to their world famous West Coast Brew Fest held in May every year at Sacramento's Miller Park. After much deliberating, the FAIR OAKS'toberfest was born and first held on September 24, 2005.
The Foundation's programs benefit the Fair Oaks community and supports youth recreation programs through a variety of programs. As an example, if an area youth wants to attend basketball camp, but can't afford the fees, he/she can apply to the Foundation for a grant to cover the fees of the camp.
