Whistleblower Says UC Davis National Primate Center Lab Engaged in Cover-Up
UC Davis National Primate Center lab engaged in cover-up of inhumane and illegal activities, whistleblower will charge on Wednesday
DAVIS - The California National Primate Research Center is engaged in a massive cover-up of inhumane and probably illegal activities, which have led to numerous animal deaths - including a 2004 incident where seven primates were "cooked" to death, a former employee of the facility will charge here Wednesday.
The CNPRC is operated by the University of California, Davis.
The "whistleblower" will make a public statement and be identified for the first time at a major news conference WEDNESDAY, at 10:15 a.m. at the Howard Johnson's (4100 Chiles Road, Renaissance Room).
In addition to the former animal caretaker, large-scale photographs illustrating activities inside the CNPRC laboratories will be presented as well as the statements of animal research experts.
In her account, the caretaker charges the CNPRC is involved in a coverup of misdeeds, noting "... the primates are not receiving adequate care. Many primates die every year due to being malnourished; they are literally starving to death. It is common practice for the CNPRC to sweep the dirt under the rug."
