Somerset Entertainment'R' Commemorates 25 Years of Celebrating Nature with the release of Solitudes 25: Silver Anniversary Collection

TORONTO, ONTARIO - (CCNMatthews - Oct. 10, 2006) - Closing down the cottage? Looking for a way to keep the spirit of the north alive all year long? Look no further than Solitudes 25: Silver Anniversary Collection, hitting stores October 17. This 2-disc compilation, featuring a 76-minute CD and 52-minute DVD, comprises some of the most stunning sights and sounds of the natural world ever recorded by Solitudes founder and award-winning naturalist, Dan Gibson.

Commemorating 25 years of audio and visual excellence, the set features renowned nature sound recordist Dan Gibson's finest field recordings and cinematography, with original compositions from talented Canadian composers, including Hennie Bekker, Michael Maxwell, John Herberman, David Bradstreet, Howard Baer, Attila Fias, Oliver Schroer, Rob Piltch, Yuri Sazonoff, Ron Allen and Steve Wingfield.

"This is an engaging yet relaxing retrospective that beautifully represents Solitudes' vast catalogue," says Gibson's son and Executive Producer of Somerset Entertainment, the parent company of the Solitudes label, Gordon Gibson.

Already a successful filmmaker, Dan Gibson introduced the Solitudes line in 1981. Gordon joined the company in 1986 and soon after, the first of Solitudes' hallmark nature sound and music recordings was released. Throughout the 1990s, awareness of the line grew, as did customers' appreciation for the therapeutic value of the albums.

"The Solitudes line has grown to not only provide innovative portraits of nature, but also as an aid in relaxation and reflection. The goal of Solitudes remains the same as when my father, Dan first conceived the idea: to render the sounds, rhythms and images of nature in ways that relax, inform, enlighten and inspire," said Gordon.

As a pioneer of sound recording techniques and equipment innovation, Dan's commitment to superior quality is evident in every one of his recordings. A testament to this dedication, Solitudes has recently released several recordings in Super Audio CD, as well as Natural Beauty, a DVD filmed on a High Definition video camera, which is included in this special commemorative set.

Over the years, Solitudes albums have garnered 18 Gold, 10 Platinum and 2 Multi-Platinum Awards. Dan Gibson was named to the Order of Canada in 1994, and was the recipient of the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award at the 1997 JUNO Awards. Dan Gibson passed away in March, 2006 at the age of 84.
