Night Watch: TSKHINVILI - Quoting police in South Ossetia, Russia's Interfax news agency reports that Russian troops, tanks and weaponry have entered South Ossetia, the breakaway region that has seceded from Georgia. By Saturday the only embassy staff Moscow has left in Tbilisi are two Foreign Ministry officials and security guards. Moscow maintains 3,000 troops in Georgia which patrol internal borders. [

Georgia Defense Minister Irakli Ukruashvili stated Friday over Georgian television concerning the possibility of a diplomatic solution, "It is possible that we may undertake such a step. I'm not excluding it." The government in Tbilisi has stated that the four remaining Russian military officers in their custody may be deported.
In New York on Friday, at the UN Security Council, no common ground was reached between the U. S. and Russia on this ongoing crisis.
