San Francisco Gay Community leaders come out in support of gay Green Party candidate for Secretary of State, join SF politicos at 'Gala Event for Democracy' on Monday
SAN FRANCISCO - Gay community leaders in San Francisco announced a "Gala Event for Democracy" to support the Green Party candidacy of Dr. Forrest Hill - only the second openly gay candidate to run for statewide office - in his bid to become California's next Secretary of State.
The Gala - which represents the first time a coalition of Gay and Green Party leaders have come together to support a Green Party candidate for statewide office - is co-sponsored by prominent Green Party members in the Bay Area, including Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi; Matt Gonzalez, fmr. President of the SF Supervisors; Krissy Keefer, District 8 Congressional candidate; Aimee Allison, Oakland City Council candidate; and Gayle McLaughlin, Richmond City Council member and Mayoral candidate.
Lead sponsor Phil Walker, of the prominent law firm of Adelson, Testan, and Brundo, is hosting the Gala to help increase awareness of Dr. Hill's campaign and to help put his revolutionary television ad campaign on the airwaves throughout California. Mr. Walker was the Host and Creator of the television show "Out and Beyond", is a former national legal columnist for Genre Magazine and is a well known leader in San Francisco's gay community.
Dr. Hill, who has a PhD. from MIT, said it is an honor to have the support of Gays and Greens in San Francisco. "We still have a long way to go before we have a multi-party democracy in California," said Dr. Hill. "San Francisco has always been at the fore-front of change, and is the place where the dark age of two-party rule is beginning to crumble."
Dr. Hill is running to give voters more choices, to make sure that all citizens can vote and all votes are accurately counted, and to reform our electoral system so people no longer feel forced to vote for the lesser of two evils.
A news conference to brief the news media on the new alliance between the San Francisco gay community and Greens will be held MONDAY, at 5 p.m. at The Beacon (4th Floor Ballroom, 260 King Street, San Francisco). The Gala will begin at 6 p.m.
