Twenty-First Century Democrats Select Angie Paccione as Visionary Leader
Angie Paccione Selected as Extraordinary, Visionary Leader Twenty-First Century
Endorsement is One of Only a Handful This Election Cycle:
Washington, DC - Twenty-First Century Democrats today announced that it has endorsed Angie Paccione for US Congress in Colorado's 4th District. Paccione is one of only 32 total candidates - and one of only 10 Congressional candidates - the nation's 13th-largest political action committee is endorsing in the 2006 election cycle.
"Angie Paccione is one of those individuals who dare to dream about what's possible for America, and she can lead us to achieve it," said Kelly C. Young, president of Twenty-First Century Democrats. "Angie knows that to move America forward and to return to our progressive heritage, it will take leadership the likes of which we haven't seen lately, and she has the unique ability to bring that kind of leadership back into the fold. Angie is a competitive fighter who always will stand for what's right. That's a Twenty-First Century Democrat at the core."
As a Coloradoan, Angie first focused her energy on working with troubled youth at a residential childcare facility, and then trained to be a high school teacher. During her teacher training, Angie was awarded the Future Teacher Award by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. While pursing her career in education, Angie applied her leadership skills to the local and surrounding communities by serving on boards of directors for non-profit organizations, and by working and volunteering with various charities.
Angie's legislative work is focused on increasing opportunities for young people, businesses, seniors, and the most vulnerable in our communities. Angie continues to be an effective champion for education issues while also pushing for improvements in healthcare, job growth and training, consumer protections, and for a cost-conscious government that is more responsible and less invasive.
"Twenty-First Century Democrats is all about making change, and I'm pleased they took note of my pledge to bring change to Colorado and to Washington, DC," said Paccione. "My campaign - and my work in Congress - will be focused on all Americans, and not just the well-connected few. It's great to know that in my quest, I've got Twenty-First Century Democrats backing me up."
The endorsement of such a small number of candidates nationwide signals a new direction for Twenty-First Century Democrats. "Despite our group's successes in winning many elections during the past decade, we saw that simply electing Democrats to office wasn't enough," said Young.
"We believe that winning a Democratic majority won't achieve the end goal of enacting bold solutions to our country's problems, and let's admit it, our party is currently stuck in a rut. We need bold leaders like Angie Paccione to shake us loose and move us forward again. History has taught us that the most innovative solutions to our country's pressing needs came from visionary leadership that fought for quantum leaps in public policy, not the politics-as-usual incremental steps. We know Angie will lead us in that direction."
