Benefon to Supply Navigation Solution to Karputer

By

SALO, FINLAND: 5th September 2006 - Wireless and GPS technology company Benefon announced today that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Karputer, the specialists in advanced in-car computing systems.

Under the agreement Benefon will develop and supply high-performance navigation systems based on its proprietary navigation technology for deployment in Karputer products. The contract leverages Benefon's extensive location-based technology expertise. Karputer is a producer of next-generation mini PCs that are designed for the automobile market.

"Benefon's equipment has long been a vital component of industry-standard location solutions and we are very impressed with this newest application for our GPS-based vehicle system," commented Mat Thornhill, Director at Karputer. "Crucially, this level of technology creates a new commercial advantage for our in-car computing systems, and opens up new global market opportunities for us."

Karputer's ICEPAC2 is a full-function Windows XP computer and entertainment system that fits into the standard DIN slot in any car, van or motorhome. Its 7" XGA motorised touchscreen LCD display gives safe, one-touch access to key functions and can run any office application or PC game software, as well as supporting DVD, CD and digital media playback.

ICEPAC2 will now incorporate Benefon's TWIG navigation platform, which combines additional location services with best-in-breed GPS satellite navigation and sophisticated voice guidance. These services include TWIG Finder, which gives users the ability to locate family, friends or colleagues who also use TWIG; and TWIG Alert, which provides extra safety and security in unforeseen circumstances, by sending the user's GPS location to a pre-set contact list.

Jonathan Bate, Chief Executive Officer for Benefon, commented, "We were the provider of the first mobile phone-based location solution to truly demonstrate the capabilities of GPS navigation technology, which makes Benefon uniquely qualified to develop the next-generation navigation solution for Karputer's impressive ICEPAC2 device. We're also pleased that our technology enables Karputer to market their products to a much broader audience, who will be able to enjoy all the benefits of advanced in-car computing and navigation solutions."
