Crossfire War - Islamic Militant Leader in Dagestan Killed by Russian Forces

Crossfire War - MOSCOW WATCH - North Caucasus - Caspian Theatre: Moscow/Tehran; Russian Forces Kill Islamic Militant Leader in Makhachkala - Dagestan
Night Watch: MAKHACHKALA - Moscow may have just scored a significant victory with the killing of an Islamic militant leader along with three other militants by Russian security forces in a special operation Saturday. The action took place in Dagestan's capital Makhachkala on the oil rich Caspian Sea. Dagestan boders Chechnya on the east. Fighting erupted here in 1999, just three years after Russia loses the first Chechen War 1994-96. [RIAN]

The militant leader killed was Gadzhi Melikov who had been leading attacks against police and Russian troops. He had also been blowing up transport vehicles. Melikov was killed along with three other militants. The owner of the house in Makhachkala where they had been staying was also killed.
