Action Takes On New Meaning When Actor/Filmmaker Ivan Rogers Is The Payback Man

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (EWORLDWIRE) Aug 21, 2006

In a time when Hollywood Studios have turned its back on the late fourties crowd and peddles films for kids in cinemas and on video store shelves, Ivan Rogers, a 50-something American actor, director and producer arrives on the scene. Always a strong presence, actor/filmmaker, Ivan Rogers takes the stage in political/cop/thriller, "The Payback Man."

After honing his skills in the overseas marketplace for 18 plus years, Rogers comes to Hollywood ruggedly handsome - cool like Steve McQueen with sometimes ethereal performances. Ardent, provocative and talented, Rogers can be likened to Charles Bronson who didn’t take the American scene until 53 with "Death Wish." Rogers finds a following in the more mature audience, but the younger eyes don't pass him by because he makes the right moves.

Armed with a script written by first time scriber, Daniel Exford, Rogers pitched the project to Paramount Studios. Michael Barlow (creative consultant) of Paramount Studios had this to say to Rogers about the script, "I do want to compliment you for going back to the core of many of the best black genre films of the 1970s and not making your hero into a 'white knight.' The script has a hard edge to it, and I appreciate that."

Payback Man tells the story of a Negro male afflicted with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Ivan Rogers is Jesse Cole, a cool and calculating, yet austere, narcotics detective sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. Fresh out of the penitentiary and with no doubt in his mind he was set up, he returns to the city where eight years prior he had been employed as detective. Here he alone was conducting a covert drug raid that went wrong and landed him in prison - but why? Jesse's healthy curiosity turns into an unhealthy desire for revenge in the form of twisted reality, dark emotions and outlandish behavior.

Ticket sales support Rogers' popularity. Box office reports show Rogers' last film entitled, "Forgive Me Father," released in cinemas in America and Canada, offered up better numbers than Kevin Bacon's "Loverboy" with branded stars such as Bacon, Matt Dillon, Kyra Sedgwich and Marisa Tomei. Even the numbers for the recent Lee Daniels effort, "Shadowboxer," which boasts star power like Oscar Award winner, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Helen Mirren, Mo'Nique, and Macy Gray demonstrated Rogers still comes out on top.

Scheduled for Fall 2006 lensing, the film is intended to be in the City of Indianapolis, Michigan City, Ind. (Indiana State Prison), and in Los Angeles. The movie is being directed by and stars Ivan Rogers. Co-producers are Hector Freeman who comes from the Dino De Laurentiis camp, and British producer, Geoff Griffiths.
