August 22: Safeco Field Hosts Sturge-Weber Foundation Nine-Year-Old For First Pitch
Seattle Mariners-New York Yankees Invites Sturge-Weber Syndrome youngster to play ball.
MT FREEDOM, N.J. (EWORLDWIRE) Aug 20, 2006
For any child, the thrill of throwing the first pitch at any game nationwide is unparalleled. For Seattle, Washington's Trevor Coffee, the August 22 honor will be especially meaningful - the nine-year old has been invited to throw out the first ball at Safeco Field for the Seattle Mariners-New York Yankees game. The event represents a milestone in Coffee's recuperation from brain surgery at Swedish Hospital's Pediatric Therapy.
Trevor, who has Sturge-Weber Syndrome, had surgery in 2003 to alleviate intractable seizures and has worked with several therapists on the road to rehabilitation.
Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare neurological disorder and is accompanied by several related conditions. The boy has a port wine stain (PWS) birthmark on the left side of his face and experienced seizures since infancy.
Trevor goes to Olympic View elementary school in Seattle.
The Sturge-Weber Foundation (SWF) of Mt. Freedom, N.J. is an international organization providing families of children like Trevor, and adults with SWS, Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome and port wine stain conditions, with education, information, and friendly support. The SWF also funds research and provides education to medical institutions.
