Crossfire War - Hezbollah Rocket Fire Controlled by Joint Command in Syria

By Willard Payne

Crossfire War - TEHRAN WATCH - West Asia Theatre: Tehran - Beirut - Damascus; Syrian Rear Command at Anjar Military Base Joint Command Center for Hezbollah Rocket Fire - Command Center Staffed by Hezbollah - Syrian - Iranian Officers - Mountain Pass Supply Network

Night Watch: ANJAR BASE - Debka reports that Hezbollah rocket fire is coordinated from a Syrian rear command base at Anjar opposite the Lebanese town of Az Zabani. Anjar is home to Syria's 10th Division and the base is now staffed with Hezbollah-Syrian-Iranian officers who are supplied with intelligence information compiled by Syrian officers, based in Damascus, who keep the command informed of the latest information on targets in Israel and the most recent movements of Israel Defence Force (IDF). Iranian Revolutionary Guard officers are also attached to the Damascus intelligence center. The timing and pattern of the rocket fire is controlled by such information. The rocket command is headed by a Syrian general from one of Syria's surface missile brigades. [DEBKA]

The command unit is also responsible for keeping Hezbollah supplied with rockets and launchers. In order to do so they employ smuggling networks that use mules and donkeys which can travel the 5,000-7,000 ft mountain passes that traverse the Lebanon-Syrian frontier. A senior Israeli officer admitted to Debka that Israel can keep bombing Lebanon but it still wouldn't stop the rocket fire. I suspect he realizes that the command center in Anjar and Damacus will have to be destroyed while the IDF penetrates into Lebanon along its eastern border with Syria to cut off the supply network.

Israel cannot win this war with half-way measures. If they had done this at the beginning the rocket fire would have been reduced by now and its supply network disrupted. Israel could then concentrate on whatever units Syria-Iran had decided to commit. Israel would have seized the initiative and would be in control of the situation instead of just reacting.
