Crossfire War - TEHRAN WATCH - South Asia Theatre - Bangladesh: Tehran - Dhaka - Islamabad/Delhi; Pakistan Intelligence Service - Al Qaeda (Iran) Establish Bangladesh as New Regional Center of Islamic Terrorism - Jamaat-e-Islami - Target India
Night Watch: DHAKA - According to Selig S. Harrison, South Asia expert and quoted Wednesday in a Washington Post article, Pakistan intelligence services and Al Qaeda (Iran) have established Bangladesh as their new regional center of Islamic extremism, terrorism. Harrison is the director of the Asia Program at the Center for International Policy and senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. [

He stated that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) contacts go back to the 1971 war with India that resulted in Bangladesh's independence and that their contacts were maintained through the Islamic fundamentalist group Jamaat-e-Islami as it does to this day. The organization is part of a coalition with the ruling government. Al Qaeda (Iran) also has contacts there and has directed their cells in Malaysia-Indonesia to relocate to Bangladesh. Bases here are now being used to support armed separatists groups in northeast India in the same way Tehran-Islamabad support militant groups in Jammu-Kashmir.
What has increased the influence of Jamaat in Dhaka is the appointments of some of their allies in high level decision making positions. Two of the more recent examples are the appointment of Major General Mohammad Aminal Karim as Military Secretary to President Iajuddin Ahmed and Brigadier General A. T. M. Amin as Director of the Armed Forces Intelligence Anti-Terrorism Bureau. Financial support for the spread of extremist-radical influence is provided by Islamic charities from Saudi Arabia and Persian Gulf states that openly finance madrassas (religious schools) based on fundamentalist interpretations of society and the world around them justifying the Jihad and all its targets, India being one of the main ones.
As a result of its investigations Delhi has named Bangladesh as one of the centers of planning for the Mumbai explosions on July 11. A year ago crossfirewar.com mentioned Bangladesh had become another front for Iran-Pakistan against India when extremist groups set off hundreds of small bombs around Bangladesh in what is said was its "third call" for Dhaka to establish a society based on Islamic principles. The Koran principle Tehran-Riyadh-Islamabad are emphasizing is not one's personal lifestyle, mode of fashion or the color of one's turban, but military prepardness for war. Defeating Delhi will achieve one of the Jihad's most important economic objectives.
