Christian Arabs Announce Press Conference Regarding Recent Crisis in the Middle East

Detroit Arab American Activists Seek Peace and Justice

DETROIT, Aug. 2, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- A group of Christian Arabs from the greater Detroit Arab American community is calling a press conference to express its outrage and address the horrific events and injustices in Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq. The press conference will take place at the Marriott Courtyard, Downtown Detroit (at the Millender Center), 333 East Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, MI, 48226, on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 5:00pm.

"Enough is enough," says Warren David, a third generation Arab American Christian and the president of Arab Detroit. "We want the American public to know that we are outraged by the horrific events taking place in the lands of our forefathers."

The group is comprised of Christian Arabs from the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox faiths with ancestral ties to Lebanon, Syrian, Palestine, Jordan and Iraq.

The members of the group include:



  --  Warren David, President and CEO of David Communications
      and President of Arab Detroit.  Mr. David is of Lebanese
      and Syrian heritage and is an Antiochian Orthodox Christian
      residing in Northville.

  --  Basima Farhat, a radio talk show host and writer who was
      born in Ramallah, Palestine and is an Antiochian Orthodox
      Christian who resides in Livonia.

  --  Nidal Fakhoury, a civil engineer and a Jordanian Christian
      residing in Livonia.

  --  Judette Haddad, a microbiologist  and a Syrian Christian
      residing in Troy.

  --  Deborah Najor, an instructor at Henry Ford Community
      College is an Iraqi Christian residing in West Bloomfield.

  --  Jalil Saad, a Lebanese Christian and Arab American
      activist from Ann Arbor.

  --  Nadine Naber, a Jordanian Christian and a professor of
      Arab American studies at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

  --  Karl Khoury, a Palestinian American Christian and student
      at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

  --  Nidhal Garmo, an Iraqi Christian pharmacist.

  --  Nabil Khoury, a Palestinian American physician residing
      in West Bloomfield.

  --  Deborah Najor, an instructor at Henry Ford Community
      College, is an Iraqi Christian residing in West Bloomfield.

  --  Hani Bawardi, a fellow at the Center for Arab American
      Studies, University of Michigan-Dearborn and a
      Palestinian Christian.

  --  Terry Ahwal, a member of the executive board of the
      American Federation of Ramallah Palestine and a Roman
      Catholic Christian.

The Arab American community of greater Detroit is the home to the largest concentration of Arab Americans in North America. Arab Detroit estimates the population at over 300,000 of which approximately 60% are Christian. Christian Arabs in Detroit come from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. There are over 20 Arab churches from the Maronite, Melkite, Chaldean, Syriac and Roman Catholic, Antiochian and Syrian Orthodox Orthodox and Protestant denominations in the greater Detroit area.

Arab Detroit is dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of accurate information about Arab Americans and the Arab world through the development of informative print materials, educational and cultural events and multi-media programming.
